NURSERY PORTRAIT
Freezing the moment
When you pick up your child from a day at nursery, you're lucky if they mention one or two things that happened during their day. On top of this, if your nursery has a strict drop-off and pick-up policy, you rarely get the chance to see "nursery life" in full swing. With my nursery portraits, I try to capture children playing in as natural a way as possible so that it shows all the little quirks of their character.
Some parents worry that their child might not warm up to a new person quickly enough for me to get a good selection of photos. Please don't worry about this! I have worked with kids my whole life in a lot of different roles ranging from volleyball coach to au pair and nanny. As a result, I have met a lot of different characters and have more than a few tricks up my sleeve to get your child comfortable and feel like they can be themselves around me. My best icebreaker is my bubble machine and this seems to bring out almost every little character out of their shell. Once the machine is blowing bubbles, kids completely forget that a new person is pointing a camera at them. This allows me to capture some beautiful moments of pure joy and fascination and usually the results speak for themselves.

Montrose, Angus, Scotland
The backyard of the Little Beehive Nursery in Montrose is ideal for children to explore the outdoors in a safe and fun way. The light for photographs is perfect throughout the seasons if the weather is right. My latest visit required 2 full days as almost 50 parents signed up for their kids to be photographed. As it wasn't my first visit to this nursery I was very humbled by the long booking list and it shows the demand for natural outdoor nursery photography.

I love interactions between siblings so much that brothers and sisters of any age are welcome to join their siblings at their nursery photoshoot for free. Getting everyone to sit down (or to play in one spot!) is usually the hardest part for all children. However, with a couple of tricks, I've found that I can even make sitting down interesting. The Little Beehive Nursery in Cupar is such a welcoming and caring nursery and this is reflected in my photos. The wonderfully supportive staff and gorgeous nursery garden setting made my job much easier than it could have been.

For some kids, nothing can beat having the whole nursery garden to themselves - even the bubble machine is irrelevant! When this happens I simply adjust to what my little subjects want to do. Do they want to go down the slide? No problem! I’ll even lie on my belly to get the best angle. Are they just happy to have the digger all to themselves? Great, I’ll be ready to capture the biggest smile whilst your little one is enjoying a peaceful play. Every child has 15 minutes in front of my camera and it is totally up to them how they fill the time. Whatever they choose to do I’ll be sure to capture it in the best way possible.

My approach to nursery photo editing is to keep the photographs as realistic as possible. If your child has picked up a scratch whilst playing or got a runny nose, I am very happy to remove these in the final selection. The same goes for bruises, forgotten sticker tattoos, or colours from painting. In a nutshell, anything that isn't permanent won't be visible in the final results. When it comes to birthmarks, freckles, and moles, my approach is the complete opposite. I embrace and celebrate every child’s unique features.

Information
New Year, New Pricing!
I aim to make my photography affordable for every family's budget, therefore I haven't raised my prices in 3 years but 2024 comes with a lot of changes and my prices had to be slightly increased to cover the rising basic costs.
Approximately 2 weeks after the nursery sessions, the parents will receive access to an online gallery containing 30-50 pictures where they can select their favourite images. Only the final selection will be edited and available for download after the payment.
The standard print size is 4x6 / 10x15cm on high-quality paper and will be sent home to you. If a different size is required, the store will offer many different options after the purchase of the digital files.
