PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPH

Visual Poetry

Are you usually waiting for birthday parties with friends, a weekend trip away, or simply a good hair day to get pictures of yourself? Then I am guessing all you have available is your or someone else's phone camera. Although phone cameras have reached an incredible quality level, they still can't quite keep up with a professional device. My camera sees what I see and that is how beautiful every soul is no matter how far or close someone is to today's beauty standards. The only standard I am focusing on is the one that you set. Every person has a good side and an excellent side and I will mirror exactly that in my photos of you.

JESSICA

August 2019

Neue Mühle, Brandenburg, Germany

"I will never look better so why not capture the here and now?". Although I think everyone looks perfect in every stage of their life, I totally agreed and still agree with Jessica. We have known each other since High School and it was very easy for us to not let awkwardness get in the way of the perfect intimate shots that she was looking for. To get the perfect angles, I obviously had to jump in the water too and until today this shoot remains one of my favourites. I am so grateful that I am allowed to share a handful of the images and hope that one day someone will trust me again the same way that Jessi did.

INNES

June 2020

The Kingdom of Fife, Scotland

Innes and I connected on Instagram during the pandemic and we both had the urge to create new photographs in between lockdowns. Innes is not only a fantastic photographer but also a passionate mountain biker with little to no fear. When I expressed my vision of him standing in the water in front of the Tay Bridge, he jumped into the freezing water without hesitation. Out came some of my favourite photos to date and I love how much energy and peace these photos contain. That day, Fife was covered by thick Haar and we enjoyed those dreamy conditions until the darkness took over.

CLAIRE

August 2019

Tentsmuir, The Kingdom of Fife, Scotland

My close friend Claire has been my muse for several years and there is nothing she ever denied when I ask her to do certain things during our photoshoots. Claire has a face that lets you assume that she might be Scottish, her hair hints towards Irish but she is actually German and we shared a flat in Berlin before we both decided that Scotland is the place to be. When you visit Claire's photos you can not only see her development over the years but also how my photo style has changed. During our last photoshoot, the weather was so mystical and dark which made it easy to focus on Claire only. On days like this, the sky functions as a softbox and I love it!

CAMERON

June 2020

The Kingdom of Fife, Scotland

In between the UK lockdowns, we had an incredible spell of foggy weather on the East Coast of Scotland. The Haar filled the woods with thick fog making it look mystical and a little bit scary. The mood was perfect for a little photo shoot with Cameron to test out some posing and lighting in those conditions. The results looked like they were shot during the filming of a movie scene and I enjoyed getting to know my equipment a little more and blowing off the dust of my photography skills. Sometimes the photo shoots where there are no expectations are the most enjoyable.

JESS

August 2020

Tentsmuir Reserve & Wormit, The Kingdom of Fife, Scotland

When I took the bus to St. Andrews I noticed this stunning redhead entering the bus. During the whole 20min drive I was wondering whether or not it would be strange if I asked her to do a photo shoot with me. Luckily Jess was open to it and we had 3 lovely photo shoots so far. I loved capturing her personal growth when she decided she didn't want to be judged based on her hair because she is more than "the girl with the red long hair". We couldn't believe it when we got joined by three cute and curious little highland cow calves. A photo shoot I will never forget.

IAN

June 2020

The Kingdom of Fife, Scotland

Ian is a well-known character on Instagram who proves that Scotland is worth a visit at any time of year. When Ian asked me to get creative together I agreed without hesitation. Besides giving me some insights into Falkland, he was such a great person to work with. Ian was completely blending in wearing his kilt and his proud Scottish roots. The light that day didn't want to quite break through the clouds so we adapted and made it part of the theme.
